Here are 7 Reasons to drink more water
1) Your body Requires it
You know you need water. Whats your reason for not doing it? I do not like plain water or ever tried beer? Did you like it the first drink? or was it an acquired taste? Thats not a good analogy but I use it because when I tasted beer it was not good and everyone said drink it, youll get used to it. That should have been their first sign, it wasnt good. Back to the water. Just drink it. Start small if you have to. Just chug a small glass every now and then. Especially before meals.
2) Fight dehydration
Tired? Head hurt? aching muscles? skin dry? fatigued? All of those could be signs of you being dehydrated. I have gout and if you have ever had it, you dont want to ever get dehydrated. If you are thirsty, your body has already been dehydrated and is starting to send you strong signals that it needs hydration. Drink a couple of glasses. If you get in a habit where you drink a small glass of water every time before you eat something, you will help hydrate your body.
This is the topic folks just like to skip right over. It is too important to not mention it. Water is needed for the digestive process. It may be true that an apple a day will help keep the dr away, but add a few glasses of water in to the mix as well please.
4) Flush those toxins
Our bodies want to rid themselves of toxins and other junk we constantly drink / eat. Water will help your bodys natural process of removing these unwanted elements. Ever had a massage? Afterwards, did they tell you go drink a liter of water? Ever wonder why it helps flush your system of the toxins that were released.
Are you really hungry or has your brain tricked you? When we have those hunger pains, more times than not we are really just thirsty. Not for that sugar filled (or sugar free) soda. Not that sweet tea that I (as a true Southerner). It is water our bodies are craving. When you wake up in the morning, you should drink a full glass of water. Its possibly the longest you go in a 24 hour period without drinking anything. Before each meal, drink another full glass of water. (Full Glass lets say 12 ounces since thats what is in a can of soda).
Dry skin can be caused by many things. Lack of water will help contribute to the problem though. Proper hydration can help skins elasticity and its a lot cheaper than all those anti aging creams that add moisture from the outside.
Whether you are trying to shed weight, burn fat, or add healthy muscle weight, water plays a very important role. Athletes know that they need to drink. Water can also help us lose weight. Its the most natural way to curb cravings and appetite that I know of.
Give it a shot. Now, how much water is needed is a question that is unique for each individual. Weve been taught that we need 8 full 8 ounce glasses every day. Studies have shown thats really not enough. A good rule to go by is taking your weight in pounds and divide that by 2. Thats about how many ounces I want to drink every day. So, if Im 200 pounds, thats 100 ounces a day for my water intake goal. Again, each person is different. Some need more some less.
Think of it as a challenge. Map out a goal for each day starting right now. Figure out how you can set yourself up for success in that goal. For me, its keeping two bottles of water on my desk at work. Two 1/2 liter bottles that I refill during the day. For others, it may be a jug of water they drink from all day. Whatever works for you, find something.
I have a history of getting dehydrated. The reasons above reflect my experiences and those I have read about. You need to use your own judgement. When you go for your annual Dr visits, talk to them about the benefits. Leave a comment letting me and others know your top benefit of drinking more water.
