The ironic part though is that most pregnant women find that it is impossible to get a good night sleep. With all the aches and pains that they feel with a growing baby, the full bladder, and a baby who is always moving around, getting more than a few hours of sleep at a time can seem impossible. But with these helpful hints, you will be able to get the best sleep possible before your new baby arrives.

1. Reduce Water Consumption
While it is important to get plenty of water into your day to keep you and your baby hydrated, you should try to reduce the consumption towards the end of the day. Many times you will wake up often at night because you drank too much water before bed and you have to visit the bathroom. This is not to say completely cut out the water consumption, but limit it a bit so that you aren’t continuously getting up during the night.
2. Get Your Exercise
Yes, you are exhausted at this point. You have been carrying around all that extra weight and trying to deal with all the new hormones that you aren’t used to. But exercising, at least a little bit each day, can make the whole pregnancy easier. While you should keep the workout simple an easy, unless you were used to heavy workouts before the pregnancy, a nice simple walk or other workout can help to alleviate the pain, make you feel more awake, and help you to fall asleep faster during the night.

Pregnancy is not a time to feel stressed out. Of course, this is also the time when you are going to feel the most stressed out. You are going have all your normal worries an then add in the stresses that come with taking care of yourself, the baby, and all the new doctor appointments. But during the pregnancy, you should try to reduce your levels of stress as much as possible. Exercise can help with this as can reading a book, yoga, and meditation.
4. Find Your Perfect Position
Finding the perfect position to sleep in can make all the difference. Experiment with which side gives you the most relief. You may want to consider getting a body pillow to put onto the body to make things more comfortable. Also, work with your clothing and the blankets to see if you are feeling too hot or too cold during the night.
5. Check the Diet
Sometimes the issue with falling asleep is going to be in your diet. Eating foods that are bad for your stomach or that give you heartburn are sure to leave you up late at night and not getting the sleep that you deserve. Try to stay away from any foods that upset you; these are often going to change when you get pregnant so listen to your body. Spicy foods are also good ones to stay away from when you are dealing with troubles at night or even with heartburn.
6. Take a Nap
If you are not able to get in enough sleep during the night, it is a good idea to get a little nap in during the day. You still need to get enough sleep to feel good and to keep the baby and yourself healthy. It is important to limit the naps a bit though; you don’t want to get too much sleep during the afternoon so that you aren’t able to sleep at night. Aim for about 20 to 30 minutes for a nap and then save the rest for when night time comes. Sometimes getting a bit of sleep, rather than getting exhausted, can make falling asleep easier.
7. Start a Routine
Start up a bedtime routine if you don’t already have one in place. This is going to help your mind to calm down and get all ready for falling asleep. You might have supper, get a nice bath, get in your favorite PJs, and read a nice book before going to sleep. You can pick out the routine that works the best for your needs, just get on the routine so that your mind is ready for bed when you are.
