When you set out to find an apartment, you tended to focus on one-bedroom apartments. With only yourself to consider, that seemed like enough. Even so, you found several Tigardville apartments rentals that had two bedrooms and really liked them. Since the price is right, why not lease one of those units? There’s a lot you can do with that extra bedroom. Here are some examples.
Creating Your Own Home Office
Even if you don’t work from home, having a home office is a huge plus. That spare bedroom can be the place where your home computer is housed along with any documents you need to keep handy.
Unlike the rest of the apartment, the home office can be used to set up a desk, filing cabinets, and store many of the books you still like to collect. When you are working on some type of volunteer project or need to spread out receipts while doing your taxes, there is room to do so without cluttering the rest of the apartment.
You’ll find all sorts of uses for the home office once it’s up and running. From having a quiet place to research subjects of interest to working on projects, that space will prove invaluable.
Setting Up a Den
Another way you can put that second bedroom to good use is creating a den in that space. With 2 bedroom apartments, many people tend to think of the main living area as being the place to set up the television, music equipment, and other basics. That’s fine, but it means you don’t have space for more formal entertaining.
If you use your extra bedroom as a den, that can be the place you retire to when you want to watch television or have some quiet time. Since the room is not the first thing guests see, it’s okay if you don’t feel like tidying the space every day. Visitors see the main living area and how well it’s maintained first. They won’t get back to the den unless you invite them.
Set It Up as a Spare Bedroom
You can also go the traditional route and furnish the room so there is a place for visiting friends and relatives to sleep. If someone calls and lets you know they will be in town for the weekend, you can let you loved one there is no need to spend money on a hotel room. Have them come over, settle them into your spare bedroom, and see what sort of fun activities the two of you can plan for the next couple of days.
The fact that you live alone does not mean an extra bedroom will be wasted space. Consider these three ideas and what they would mean for your lifestyle. It won’t take long to see how having a little more room on hand will be a good thing.
