As someone who was once a student and looking to buy a television, it was easy to look at some of the bigger brands and be amazed by their picture quality. Unfortunately, their price tags did not reflect my budget.
So I strolled down the budget TV isle, hoping to find something that my wallet could handle and this is where I was met with the Dynex brand. What other companies had in terms of beautiful trim and design around their display screens, the Dynex line was as simple as could be, but its not like those things are necessary to begin with.
I couldn’t find any Dynex TV reviews online, as Dynex is originally a store brand product and doesn’t have as many buyers because it isn’t available at all stores. To my knowledge, they are only on Best Buy and Amazon.
If you’re looking for an additional TV to put in a room or in a basement, or if you’re a college kid on a budget, looking to play some video games, keep reading this Dynex review to find out why this may be an option for you.
Let me introduce you to a couple of models that might interest you in our Dynex TV reviews.
Dynex DX-32L LCD
Our Rating: (4.0 / 5)
I am introducing the Dynex TV in its 32 inch form because I do not recommend anything in a bigger size. Why?
Because the picture from this brand isn’t the best when it comes in bigger sizes and that becomes more noticeable. Are they still great looking TVs? Yes, but not as great if you follow my lead.
Keep reading further about the details and specifications of the television and find out if it’s right for you!
This TV only displays in 720p, and not in 1080p and this may be disappointing for some to hear, but let me in on a little secret: with displays under 32 inches, you can’t tell much of a difference. Manufacturers just use this notion to jack up the prices.
And if you’re using this for just watching cable, almost all cable networks still send 720p signal because it’d be an additional cost to them.
In terms of input and output, there are 3 HDMI ports, 2 composite, 2 component, 2 S-Video, and optical for audio, as well as a regular audio jack.
For a budget television, the availability of these ports is very good so it succeeds in that sphere as I’ve come across big manufacturers that offered less at times.
What you’ll also want to know is that the sound from the TV leaves something to be desired but this is mostly true for all flat-screens. This model, in particular, however, isn’t very good at outputting audio. There are solutions to this problem, though.
Solution #1: Get a sound bar or an inexpensive audio system with great online reviews will solve this. I personally recommend the Audio Source S350 2.2 Speaker System because of its great reviews, great price and Bluetooth so you can connect your phone to the system as well to listen to music. It’s an all around great value.
Solution #2: If you are playing video games, most gamers are now using headsets so that they may get better sound, hear foot steps more accurately, and communicate with their teammates, all at the same time. There are many brands and individual products for each video game console so you’ll have to do some research.
Solution #3: You deal with it if it’s just a TV for occasional use as its not that big of a problem for casual users.
The reason why its inexpensive is because its a bare-bones system. As a result, its not as pretty as the brands that want to appear luxurious to the owner.
This is just a model that you would put into your bedroom for casual viewing, into your children’s playroom or as a simple TV for gaming.
Dynex DX-24E LED
Our Rating: (3.5 / 5)
While smaller than the previous model that I have shown, it is an LED model so it is somewhat superior to the LCD previously described.
I recommend this model particularly to people looking for a TV for the guest room or for video gaming in the bedroom or basement.
The DX-24E’s picture is much better than the DX-32L mostly because of the LED screen which trumps the LCD display quality. It also has a 1080p resolution setting, but as I’ve mentioned before, the difference between 1080p and 720p is barely noticeable at that size.
What is noticeable however is its contrast ratio which is 20,000:1 and almost twice the amount of the previous model.
The color quality is surprisingly decent for a cheap model like this which surprised me and even the blacks were comparable to some of the higher priced blacks.
Unfortunately, although this is a cheaper option, it comes with less input ports. It has 1 HDMI port, 1 component, 1 component, VGA, 3.5mm audio and headphone jack.
Like the previous product, the sound leaves something to be desired and would recommend picking up the audio speaker system in addition to this purchase.
You can check my recommendations above.
While still a bare-bones system, it is a much prettier option than the 32 inch model previously noted. The plastic is nice and sleek and will look good in a bedroom, guest room or basement. The only drawbacks of having it in the living room are that it is too small.
